Sherah: Daughter of Ephraim

1 Chronicles 7:24

(And his daughter was Sherah, who built Bethhoron the nether, and the upper, and Uzzensherah.)

  1. His daughter – The English word daughter was translated from the Hebrew word bath, which was formed from two words banah and ben.
    Bath means a female descendant.
    – Some of the meanings of the word banah are: to build; to establish; to rebuild; to cause to continue.
    – Some of the meanings of the word ben are child(ren); a member of a group.
  2. Sherah, Sheerah in Hebrew, means Kinswoman: Consanguity (i.e. a female relation by blood); Near kinswoman.
  3. Built – The English word built was translated from the Hebrew word banah. Another meaning of banah is to restore a ruined house or city.
It is said that Rachel and Leah built the house of Israel (Ruth 4:11). They did so by giving Jacob offspring. Their descendants made up the nation of Israel. Sherah also built but not a house. She built towns and cities that would become strategic locations for warfare.
